The change of the Production Regulations took place
in 2010, modifying the ampelographic base and bringing
in a new variety, Muffa Nobile. DOC Orvieto wines must
be made from the following varieties:
Trebbiano
or Procanico and Grechetto: min. 60%.
Other varieties of similar colour suitable for growing
in Umbria and the Province of Viterbo: max. 40%.
Orvieto and Orvieto Classico may be made in the following
types: secco (dry), abboccato (sweetish), amabile (slightly
sweet), sweet, superiore, late harvest and Muffa Nobile.
DOC wines called "Orvieto Rosso" or "
Rosso Orvietano" must be made from the following
varieties:
main varieties - Aleatico, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Canaiolo R., Ciliegiolo, Merlot, Montepulciano,
Pinot Nero, Sangiovese alone or combined for at least
70% and with the possible addition of.
secondary varieties: Aleatico, Barbera. Cosanese
comune, Colorino, Dolcetto alone or up to 30%.
